
Biography
Born in 1989 in Pavlohrad, Ukraine.
Since 1998 studied piano and accordion in his native city. From 2003 to 2007 studied piano and composition at the Kharkiv Special Music School. From 2007 to 2012 studied composition at the Kharkiv National Kotlyarevsky University of Arts. After graduating from the University he studied composition privately with Oleksandr Shchetynsky.
In 2011, after the premiere of his piano trio Music in Memory of the Great Master, he got the opportunity to visit the Wagner's festival in Bayreuth, Germany. In 2013 the Richard Wagner Society in Kharkiv commissioned him to write a composition for the 200th anniversary of Richard Wagner. Since 2015 he is a member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine. From February to July 2016 he was a participant of Gaude Polonia the scholarship program of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland. The same year for the work The Way for String Orchestra he was awarded the 1st prize at the International Composers’ Competition arranged by concert agency Collegium Musicum in Lviv, Ukraine. In 2018 the Kyiv Spring International Music Festival commissioned Denys to write an orchestral composition. In 2021 he had a commission to write a piece for the Trio Coriolis, Munich, Germany. In 2022 Deutsche Welle commissioned him to write an orchestral piece. In 2023 he had a commission to write a piece for the Ensemble Proton Bern.
Bocharov's work list includes compositions for symphony and chamber orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, choir and voice. His works have been performed at concerts and International festivals of contemporary music in Europe and America.
